The Short North is the "Art and Soul" district of Columbus. It is a vibrant & culturally rich area with art galleries, fine dining, fashion boutiques & gift shops. It is home to over 300 business, the majority being locally owned. The Short North is known as a model for urban revitalization.
A successful renewal project of German Village in the 1960's gave developers a plan for redeveloping the Short North. In 1980 a handful of people began the work of creating the Short North Arts District. Gallery owners worked in cooperation with the introduction of a monthly Gallery Hop that continues to draw visitors. One of the highlights of the Short North are the lighted arches along High Street which harken back to 1888 when Columbus first became known as the Arch City.
